Who can get financial aid?

To qualify for financial aid, you’ll need to meet these basic requirements:

• Complete your FAFSA using YC’s school code 001079.
• Be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen.
• Have earned your high school diploma or GED.
• Not be in default on previous loans or owe refunds on grants to the Department of Education.
• Be admitted to a financial aid eligible, certificate or degree-seeking program.
• Stay in good academic standing (Satisfactory Academic Progress).

How do I get financial aid?

1. Apply for Admission to Yavapai College

   Students new to Yavapai College must apply for admission before Yavapai College can begin to process your FAFSA application.

2. Create an FSA ID (your StudentAid.gov account)

   Whether you’re a student or parent, you’ll need to create your own account on studentaid.gov. You’ll use the same FSA ID every year.

3. Fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

   Completing the FAFSA is the first step in determining federal financial aid eligibility. The FAFSA application typically opens October 1^st each year.  YC’s Federal School Code is 001079. Complete the FAFSA on studentaid.gov.

   Note: you should never pay for help completing the FAFSA. If a person or website asks for payment, do not proceed and contact us right away at financial.aid@yc.edu.

4. You will receive the FAFSA Submission Summary

   This will be emailed to you from the Department of Education (ED) 3-4 days after your FAFSA has been processed by ED. The Department of Education will send your FAFSA to YC, and it may take up to two weeks for YC to receive it.

5. Check that all financial aid tasks are satisfied

   Once your FAFSA is processed by YC, you’ll receive an email from the YC Financial Aid Office confirming receipt and providing instructions on how to view your financial did offer by logging in to https://www.yc.edu/.

   The financial aid disbursement is not immediately after we receive your FAFSA. See our disbursements page for more information.

   Pell Grants for the fall and spring semester are announced after YC receives your FAFSA and you’ve completed all eligibility requirements. The summer Pell Grant will be announced before summer registration opens.

   Please note: Federal student loans are not included in Yavapai College’s offer package. To receive a federal student loan, follow the steps listed on our loan page: https://www.yc.edu/financialaid/loan

6. Apply for Scholarships

   After you submit the FAFSA, you can explore scholarships on Yavapai College’s Scholarship Resources page https://www.yc.edu/financialaid/scholarship-resources

   Scholarships are gift aid – money for college that you don’t have to repay. And there are tons of scholarships out there for all kinds of students based on interests, specific degrees/certificates, goals and lots more.

7. Maintain good academic standing, called Satisfactory Academic Progress

8. Complete a FAFSA every year

   The FAFSA is for fall, spring, and summer academic year. Once the academic year is over, you’ll need to submit a new FAFSA every year you’re in college to continue receiving federal financial aid.
